Possibly a plagiarist and touted as a scoundrel, yet Sathnam claims he's worthy of a bigger place in history. If just a tiny portion of what we think we know about him is true, he is a genuinely remarkable figure.

From Hamish Henderson to Tom Robinson, the Sex Pistols to U2, and more recently Radiohead and Stormzy, protest music has come a long way.
Billy Bragg sets out to savour and share the stories of great moments where musicians were inspired by unfolding events to protest, to perform and to preach of an alternative way.
Along the way there will be contributions from authors, artists and academics who have seen technology transform the way in which people create and listen to protest songs.

Series 1
Taking Advantage
Matt and Bob decide to see how far they can take advantage of Matt's disability - and attempt shoplifting.
Matt is 25. He has cerebral palsy and can only speak via an app on his iPad. Everyone who cares about Matt knows that this isn't the defining thing about him. He's funny and clever and "up for stuff" - partly because he is keen to show that there's nothing he can't do, but also because, if he's honest, he's aware that he's less likely than other people to get the blame.
Now Matt's left home for the first time and moved in to share a flat with his best mate, Jess. But when Bob (Allan Mustafa) shows up as the new carer, the fun really starts. Bob is new to the job and, although willing, domestic duties are not really his forte. He's better at selling weed and dealing in knocked off iPads.
But he likes Matt and treats him like a real person. So, as far as Matt is concerned, Bob is here to stay.
Matt ...... Lee Ridley
Bob ...... Allan Mustafa
Writer ...... Lee Ridley
Writer ...... Katherine Jakeways

While his parents are downstairs, drinking, smoking and arguing about their failing marriage, Adrian is upstairs in his bedroom listening to Abba, reading great works of literature, writing poems, and penning letters to the BBC.

Emily Bronte's iconic love story. Her only novel is unforgettable, full of passion and darkness. Thrilling but haunting until the very end, uniquely bound to its setting on the bleak Yorkshire moors.
Nelly Dean is the voice of normality and reason in a world of chaos, darkness and intense passion. Heathcliff and Cathy's love is the beating heart of the story, and even after Cathy's death we hear her chilling and ghostly voice.
An intensely powerful and haunting soundscape weaves around the action as the two grow from children to adults and we witness the brutal actions that lead to Heathcliff's own cruelty. Cruelty that shatters the lives of all those around him.
But even through Heathcliff's destruction there is a redemptive ending filled with such mystery and lyricism it works like a spell.

MON 14:30 The Poppy Factory (b016x22w)
Chris Ledgard explores the story of The Poppy Factory in Surrey where, for nearly ninety years, former members of the armed forces have made millions of poppies and wreaths for Remembrance Sunday.
In 1922, Major George Howson, the founder of the Disabled Society, wrote to his parents: "I have been given a cheque for £2,000 to make poppies with. It is a large responsibility and will be very difficult. If the experiment is successful it will be the start of an industry to emply 150 men. I do not think it can be a great success, but it is worth doing."
Major Howson's pessimism was short-lived. His workforce grew rapidly and, a few years later, The Poppy Factory had to move from the Old Kent Road in London to bigger premises in Richmond, Surrey. Soon, more than 350 men had jobs there.
The factory is still in the same place and still staffed by former servicemen and women and their dependents, some of whom are coping with stress disorders. We meet them and hear about the history of this remarkable institution. Millions of poppies are now made by home workers in the surrounding area, like Mr and Mrs King, all of whom have a connection with the armed services. We go out in the Poppy Van to meet the Kings who, between them, put together five thousand remembrance poppies a week, every week of the year.
We'll hear how the charity is coping with a dwindling workforce and a shift to mechanised production. Flats on the large Richmond site are now let out to provide money which is being used all over the country to help members of the armed forces find civilian work. Chris discovers how the money helped Caroline Plank, a Territorial Army Signaller with 8 months' service in Afghanistan who now lives on a houseboat on the River Avon.

The Last of the Single-Handers
As Bristol's most challenged NHS surgery reels from one crisis to another, there are questions to be asked about health and safety, funding, complaints procedures, patient numbers, secure record keeping and the sheer number of patients who will insist on getting ill. Guest starring Monica Dolan as the last of the single-handers.
Escaping the chaos of his understaffed surgery, Dr Roy (Nigel Planer) goes for dinner with an old flame, who runs a single-handed practice somewhere on the Downs, and he dreams mistily of life as a solo GP. Back at Polyoaks, the patients are spilling out into the car park as increasingly desperate practice manager Nurse Monica (Polly Frame) struggles to persuade the doctors to cut appointment times.
Her cause is a forlorn one, as Dr Jeremy has been seconded to A&E, because of the pressure on hospital emergency departments, and Dr Hugh (Simon Greenall) is increasingly preoccupied with NHS politics.

TUE 14:30 The Unsettled Dust: The Strange Stories Of Robert Aickman (b0184v2s)
Screenwriter Jeremy Dyson praises the supernatural stories of British author and conservationist Robert Aickman and argues they should receive greater recognition for their contribution to literature.
Robert Aickman was the grandson of the prolific Victorian novelist Richard Marsh whose occult thriller The Beetle (1897) was in its time as popular as Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Aickman is best remembered today for co-founding the Inland Waterways Association, but his Grandfather's work influenced him to write around fifty so called "strange" stories involving the supernatural and macabre over a thirty year period starting in the late forties.
In recent years League of Gentlemen writer Dyson has adapted Aickman's work into various forms of Drama including the BBC Radio Four play 'Ringing the Changes'.
By speaking with fans of Aickman and introducing students to his work for the first time, Dyson argues that Aickman's literary gifts have been undervalued and during his lifetime he should have received greater critical acclaim.

Series 16
Don't Leave Me This Way
Don't Leave Me This Way was written in the early 1970s by songwriters Huff, Gamble and Gilbert who were the composers behind the famous black American Philadelphia Sound. It was first performed by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, featuring Teddy Pendergrass on lead vocals, and later became a hit for Thelma Houston and the Communards. As the title suggests, the song is all about longing, yearning and loss.
Remarkable stories in this edition of Soul Music reflect the pain expressed in this soul classic, including one told by Dr Dan Gottlieb, a quadriplegic therapist who befriended Teddy Pendergrass after he became paralysed in a car accident. Sharon Wachsler recalls dancing to the version made famous by The Communards in 1986 before a devastating illness left her housebound and reliant on her beloved service dog Gadget, who gave her a reason to keep going. When he died, the song was the only way she could express her grief over his loss.
The Reverend Richard Coles, formerly of The Communards, talks about the significance of Don't Leave Me This Way as a dancefloor anthem for young gay men in the 1980s that was later to become associated with the AIDS epidemic that took so many of their lives.

Series 3
About Maturity
Nathan decides to prove how mature he is in order to win back the girl that rejected him.
A mix of stand-up and re-enacted family life written by Nathan Caton and James Kettle
Can't Tell Nathan Caton Nothing is a series about young, up-and-coming comedian Nathan Caton, who after becoming the first in his family to graduate from University, opted not to use his architecture degree but instead to try his hand at being a full-time stand-up comedian, much to his family's horror and disgust. They desperately want him to get a 'proper job.'
Each episode illustrates the criticism, interference and rollercoaster ride that Nathan endures from his disapproving family as he tries to prove himself.
Janet a.k.a. Mum is probably the kindest and most lenient of the disappointed family members. At the end of the day she just wants the best for her son. However, she'd also love to brag and show her son off to her friends, but with Nathan only telling jokes for a living that's kind of hard to do.
Martin a.k.a. Dad works in the construction industry and was looking forward to his son getting a degree so the two of them could work together in the same field. But now Nathan has blown that dream out of the window. Martin is clumsy and hard-headed and leaves running the house to his wife (she wouldn't allow it to be any other way).
Shirley a.k.a. Grandma cannot believe Nathan turned down architecture for comedy. She can't believe she left the paradise in the West Indies and came to the freezing United Kingdom for a better life so that years later her grandson could 'tell jokes!' How can her grandson go on stage and use foul language and filthy material... it's not the good Christian way!
So with all this going on in the household what will Nathan do? Will he persevere and follow his dreams? Or will he give in to his family's interference? Or will he finally leave home?!

Series 4
Work
The fourth series of Danny Robins’ sitcom continues with fish-out-of-water Geoff, probably a herring, trying to acclimatise to his new life in Sweden.
So far, it is going well. He has married his Swedish girlfriend Linda (Sissela Benn), they have a baby John, Geoff is usually on civil terms with his Swedish in-laws, and he is now a fully-fledged Swedish citizen himself – at least, technically. But Geoff is still confused, entranced or infuriated by the unexpectedly Scandinavian on a daily basis. This year, Geoff has to learn about conflicting attitudes towards health and safety, the appropriate gender for a witch and how to get ahead on the Swedish comedy circuit.
We catch up with Geoff (Adam Riches) and Linda as the generous period of Swedish paternity leave comes to end. Little John is starting at nursery school and it’s time for Geoff to launch himself onto the job market. When he finally lands a full time job, he finds himself working alongside his mother-in-law Gunilla (Anna-Lena Bergelin). This may be a challenge - until they find a mutual affinity for whisky, white water canoeing and the strange workplace tradition of "kicking off".

WED 14:30 Travelling the Spaceways: The Cult of Sun Ra (b046nvxs)
Jez Nelson explores the life of Sun Ra - the renowned jazz composer, bandleader and pianist born in 1914.
Sun Ra was the first black avant-garde musician, paving the way for Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane and Archie Shepp. He set up his own record label before independent labels existed, and was one of the first to use synthesizers in his music. He also commanded a unique and, some would say, unhealthy dedication from his band. They lived in his house and eschewed sex, drugs and even sleep in the pursuit of a higher cause - music.
Two decades after his death, Sun Ra continues to inspire a dedicated following. His original band, the Arkestra, regularly sell-out European concert halls, there are numerous tribute bands around the World and even an annual Italian music festival exclusively devoted to him. So why does he continue to hold this cult status?
Revisiting an intriguing interview he gave shortly before he died, and with new interviews with band members and Sun Ra obsessives, Jez Nelson asks whether, a century on from his birth, we are any better placed to understand Sun Ra's message.
Contributors include Gilles Peterson, Marshall Allen, John Sinclair and Jerry Dammers.

Jeff (Philip Jackson) and Andy (James Northcote) are awaiting their departure from Winifred Holtby International Airport, formerly RAF Flamford Heath, with a major repurposing in the 90s as Flamin’ Wheels Go-Kart Centre.
They’ve taken advantage of The Flamford Bugle’s 2-for-1 ticket offer to mark the “exciting new route” to Rome-Maremma by low budget airline AlexAir.

Frank has already started on the pints (“What? I’m on holiday”), Joyce has been on a Flying-With-Confidence course (“My mantra is ‘Turnips’”) and Mr Truepenny is behaving more oddly than normal (“I dropped an E earlier and I think it’s kicking in”). They soon find cheapest is not always best.
As the flight delays mount, so tempers rise and questions are asked. When’s the plane leaving? What is Frank’s secret? Who is Simon? And why does WH Smith sell water in litre bottles which you cannot possibly finish before you reach the security gate?

4. Cathy
In this episode, Heathcliff has returned to the Heights and for Nelly it feels like an evil beast is prowling, waiting his time to destroy. Should Nelly warn Cathy of the danger ahead?

Dramatised in ten parts by award-winning writer Rachel Joyce.

THU 14:30 Midwives to Be (b04vf6z9)
It's one of the most popular degree courses in the country. If you've managed to secure a place at King's College London to study midwifery, you've beaten 17 other applicants to secure the place.
In September 2014, Sarah Taylor followed the new intake of BSc Midwifery students studying at King's College London. Less than half of them are straight from school, some arrive on the course having already studied something completely different. Other members have finally got a place to study midwifery after doing their time as Health Care Assistants and studying via the access course route.
It's a really diverse student group and of the 99 student midwives, just one is male. The students share their stories of what motivated them to apply for the course, how hard it was to get on and how they are coping with the first term. It's an intense student experience - twelve hour shifts in hospital alongside lots of lectures to help them get up to speed with everything they need to know to support women in labour.

Don McCullin on Norman Lewis
In 1968 Norman Lewis wrote an article called Genocide in Brazil. The photographs that accompanied it were by Don McCullin.
Lewis later said that this one piece of journalism was the great achievement of his life. It led directly to the creation of Survival International and a change in the law relating to the treatment of indigenous people in Brazil.
Lewis is known as a brilliant writer - one of our best, said Graham Greene, 'not of any particular decade of our century'. He's best remembered for A Dragon Apparent and Naples '44.
Don McCullin didn't travel with Norman Lewis to Brazil, but they struck up an unexpected friendship. He was like my father, the great photographer says. And in Norman Lewis's later years they worked together in Venezuela, Papua New Guinea and elsewhere. But McCullin didn't read many of his books. "I struggled through Naples '44" he admits. Yet his admiration for the way Lewis opened his eyes to the world remains undimmed.
Recorded on location at McCullin's Somerset farmhouse with Norman Lewis's biographer Julian Evans.

FRI 14:15 Emily Bronte - Wuthering Heights (b0b2mrc1)
5. Isabella
In this episode, Nelly's fears have been confirmed. Isabella has gone. She dare not tell Edgar while Cathy is so ill.
Starring Ben Batt and Chloe Pirrie.
Dramatised in ten parts by award-winning writer Rachel Joyce.

FRI 14:30 Sable Island - A Dune Adrift (b00p8c15)
One hundred miles east of Nova Scotia lies a 30 mile-long sand dune: Sable Island, population, two, who work in the weather and research station - and 300 wild horses.
Presenter Sean Street reveals how this remote place, this dune adrift in the Atlantic, is providing information vital to us all, and has gained a powerful presence in the imagination.
In the middle of the world's worst weather systems, held tentatively in place by ocean currents, Sable Island is the perfect place to monitor climate change, and air and sea pollution.
More than 500 ships have been wrecked here. There have been several attempts at colonisation, by the Portuguese, the French (Sable is the French word for Sand) and even a group of prominent Bostonians, and all have failed.
Thomas Raddell, Nova Scotia's finest writer, was a radio operator on Sable for a year, and this inspired his novel The Nymph and the Lamp. The poet Elizabeth Bishop visited and wrote about the island.
Sean Street examines wreckage from some of more than 500 ships that have come to grief on the island. There is a poignant baby's crib made from wreck wood, there being no trees. He meets the artist Roger Savage who had to tie his easel down, clamp his paper and battle with the scouring sand as he captured the landscape of the place in his paintings. And he meets a man who dedicated years to studying the rare Ipswich Sparrow, which nests only on Sable Island.
What emerges is that Sable Island is for the Canadians what the Galapagos are for the people of Ecuador, or Easter Island for Chileans. It is important scientifically and historically, but more than this it is important culturally, as part of their identity.
Produced by Julian May.
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 2009.
