SAT 22:00 Mark Watson's Live Address to the Nation (b0174hvv)
Intelligence
Mark Watson continues his quest to improve the world, nimbly assisted by Tim Key and Tom Basden.
As broadcast live in November 2011 - Mark invites the audience join in via tweets and messages to work out how we can all make the world a better place.
Mark asks the big questions that are crucial to our understanding of ourselves and society - in a dynamic and thought provoking new format he opens the floor to the live audience and asks them to jump into the conversation via tweets and messages to work out how we can all make the world a better place.
This week Mark looks at "Intelligence" - A certain amount of intelligence is pretty useful. Without the ability to reflect and calculate, we would all be setting fire to our shoes and buying those novels about women who shop and have relationship issues. Yet intelligence has been something of a curse to many. Galileo was tortured for knowing more about science than the church leaders, and Paxman sighs an awful lot when he's hosting University Challenge.
We all know the phrase 'a little learning is a dangerous thing, but then so is a lot of learning, but then again you wouldn't want none at all. So... oh dear, we're basically ruined. We'd better knock down all our schools and universities.' Are we sometimes too smart for our own good?
Mark Watson is a multi-award winning comedian, including the inaugural If.Comedy Panel Prize 2006. He is assisted by Tim Key, winner of Edinburgh Comedy Awards 2009 and Tom Basden who won the the If.Comedy Award for Best Newcomer 2007.
Produced by Lianne Coop.
First broadcast live on BBC Radio 4 in November 2011.

Harry Hill is an award-winning comedian and world-class swingball player. Born in Woking in 1964, he holds a medical degree from the University of London. His books include Flight from Deathrow and Tim the Tiny Horse. He has been a stand-up since the early 90s and is well known as the star of TV Burp and the voice of You've Been Framed. Harry can currently be seen on Alien Fun Capsule.

Joe Simpson
From Joy Division to Etta James. Mountaineer and author Joe Simpson shares his castaway choices with Sue Lawley.
Born in Kuala Lumpur in 1960, Joe showed an early adventurous spirit and love of sport at school. But it was only after reading the classic account of attempted ascents on the Eiger - 'The White Spider' - by Heinrich Harrer that he developed an interest in his future passion.
Joe famously tackled a previously unconquered route up Siula Grande - a peak in the Peruvian Andes. This climb was to make his name – with his partner Simon Yates making the first successful ascent of the mountain's west face. But they hit difficulties after Joe shattered his leg on their descent. The actions that Simon subsequently took caused controversy.

SUN 12:00 Poetry Extra (m000kp2h)
From Mumbai to Machynlleth
Ghazal, the love song of Indian Classical music, has its roots in 7th-century Arabic poetry.
It carried to the medieval courts of Persia and later to the palaces of the Mughal Emperors of India, was adopted by Sufi mystics along the way, and came to be seen as the highest form of expression of love, for subjects both divine and earthly.
In its latest incarnation, Ghazal has met and been enmeshed with a seemingly alien tradition - the anonymous 'hen benillion' or old verses of rural Wales. While the poets of Ghazal used only to be heard by Indian high society, the Welsh poems, some of which also date back to medieval times, are nuggets of wisdom handed down by ordinary men and women. But both deal in themes of longing and impossible love.
The project 'Ghazalaw', a collaboration between Indian and Welsh musicians, searches for affinities between these centuries-old poetic and musical forms, connects the languages of Urdu and Welsh (which both have their roots in Sanskrit), and attempts to bring communities together. Ghazal still holds to the tenets of Sufism, calling for acceptance, tolerance, and forgiveness - the call of the hour, as the singer and composer Tauseef Akhtar points out: the message is love.
Produced by Megan Jones.
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 2016.

Lemn Sissay
Lemn Sissay is a writer and broadcaster who self-published his first book of poetry, when he was just 18 years old.
As a child of the state, he was named Norman after one of the many social workers he encountered whilst growing up, and Greenwood after the Lancashire family who initially fostered him.
When Norman Greenwood left foster care, there were five different children’s homes. Then, at the age of 17, he was given two bits of paper which changed his life. One was a letter from his Ethiopian birth mother, Yemarshet Sissay, the other was a birth certificate which revealed that his true name was Lemn.
Since then, Lemn has been exploring his own history, sharing his tales, in poetry, documentaries and on stage.
This episode of Telling Tales features the 2009 Radio 4 documentary Child Of The State, in which Lemn tracks down people and stories from his time in care. It was produced by Jo Wheeler, for Above The Title.
We hear a short extract from Lemn's one man play, Something Dark, which was recorded for Radio 3 in 2004 and is now studied in schools as part of the national curriculum.
Lemn also talks about his BAFTA-nominated television documentary Superkids; and an upcoming “memoir with a message” titled My Name Is Why.

In one version of his life, Justin is a well-known local Manchester radio DJ who is successful, funny, and stopped in the street by adoring fans. He's the man who has everything. In another version he's a DJ in a slightly shabby local radio station who gets hassled by the occasional oddball on the street. And he's the man who hopes for everything. The truth lies somewhere in between.
And at home? Well, naturally, his private life is chaotic. His wife has left him, taking custody of his 8-year-old son Justin jnr, and is in the process of taking him to the cleaners. So he's back on the market. As is his house - so he's currently living in his father-in-law's spare room in Bury. The only person who understands him is his Gran, living in luxury in an old folk's home in Warrington. Oh, and his producer Bryn but this might not be a good thing.
Despite all this mess, Justin always remains positive. Every new day is a new opportunity, "When life throws you lemons, make lemonade".
Recorded in front of an audience in Manchester.
Everyone Quite Likes Justin is written by Justin Moorhouse and Jim Poyser. Justin is a comedian who sells out gigs across the country. He has also written plays and a previous show for Radio 4. Jim Poyser is a writer and producer of enormous experience in both radio and television.
TUE 23:00 Ida Barr: Artificial Hip Hop (b00v72r5)
Diversity
By Christopher Green.
Ida Barr is a music hall singer who has embraced hip hop and rap, reflecting the cultural diversity of London's East End, where she has been living in retirement for several decades. Ida has a genuine love of talking to people so each week she investigates a new topic and creates a unique brand of music-hall, hip-hop fusion with beat boxer Shlomo. This week, the topic is "Diversity".
Produced by Claire Grove
Ida Barr is the creation of award-winning performer Christopher Green (aka spoof country and western singer Tina C). "Missy Elliott meets Marie Lloyd" - Guardian. Each week Ida investigates a current political buzz word - Choice, Responsibility, Diversity and Transparency - and records her findings on her Ida-pod - an ancient battery operated cassette machine with a greasy earpiece. Her target groups include the Sutton House over 55's drama group, children from the Italia Conti Aacademy and Theatre Venture's Youth Company from Stratford East.
Beat box artist Shlomo was heard by 3.9 billion people around the world when he and Björk performed "Oceania" at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Athens Olympics. He has also worked with artists such as Martha Wainwright, Damon Albarn, and Nitin Sawhney. He is a classically-trained percussionist and heads the world's only human beatbox choir, the Vocal Orchestra.
Christopher Green has written and performed three Tina C series for BBC Radio 4 plus Tina C's Election Night BBQ Special (Nov 2008). 'Ida Barr's Bingo' was at the Brighton Festival and the South Bank earlier this year and 'Ida Barr: So This Is Christmas' was at the Barbican Centre in December 2008.

WED 11:00 Parody Please (m000knvd)
1. On the Hour and Delve Special
A surprisingly wide array of favourite radio personalities - Charlotte Green, Sandi Toksvig, Lyse Doucet and Ruth from The Archers - co-present this exploration of radio self-parody, which also contains contributions from Jan Ravens.
The history of radio's ability to parody itself goes back almost to the birth of radio. The range of this parody is so wide - news, current affairs, drama, the arts, phone-ins, investigative journalism - that the production team on this programme decided that a single presenter simply wouldn't do it justice. Parody Please is co-presented by a truly exceptional range of favourite radio voices, including Charlotte Green, Sandi Toksvig, Lyse Doucet and Ruth from the Archers, who collectively explore why radio is the best medium for parody, and its important role in our society, perhaps today more than ever.
Jan Ravens joined this roster of celebrities in order to talk with the distinguished radio critic Gilllian Reynolds in an interview which ranges across Band Waggon, The Private Life of Hilda Tablet, Delve Special, Radio Active, Down the Line, People Like Us, Dead Ringers, not to mention the unexpected late-night phone-in contributions of Sven the Norwegian.
Producer : Beaty Rubens for 4 Extra.

A sixth series of more shop based shenanigans and over the counter philosophy, courtesy of Ramesh Mahju and his trusty sidekick Dave. Written by and starring Donald Mcleary and Sanjeev Kohli.
Set in a Scots-Asian corner shop, the award winning Fags, Mags & Bags sees a return of all the shop regular characters, and some guest appearances along the way, from the likes of Julia Deakin and Mina Anwar.
In this episode, Ramesh enrols the local community to raise funds to help Keenan realise his ambition of playing in a badminton tournament in Frankfurt. Keenan intends to fly the flag for Lenzie and Scotland, and Keenan's Mum is eyeing up being the new Judy Murray.
Join the staff of Fags, Mags and Bags in their tireless quest to bring nice-price custard creams and cans of coke with Arabic writing on them to an ungrateful nation. Ramesh Mahju has built it up over the course of over 30 years and is a firmly entrenched, friendly presence in the local area. He is joined by his shop sidekick, Dave.
Then of course there are Ramesh's sons Sanjay and Alok, both surly and not particularly keen on the old school approach to shopkeeping, but natural successors to the business. Ramesh is keen to pass all his worldly wisdom onto them - whether they like it or not!
