Arbroath
Hospitalfield House in the fishing town of Arbroath on Scotland's east coast is a Victorian treasure trove. The couple who owned this great house back in the 19th century were obsessed with the decorative arts and Hospitalfield is full of ornate carved ceilings, sculpted fireplaces, exquisite plasterwork and stonework carved by master masons. It's still a place where artists work today and it has a fine picture collection.
Amongst the many Victorian paintings, could a mysterious 16th-century portrait by one of the great Old Master artists lie waiting to be discovered? Dr Bendor Grosvenor and Emma Dabiri travel to Arbroath to investigate what could be a true Old Master painting, obscured by 400 years of dirt and old varnish. Bendor suspects the painting is a lost masterpiece by giant of Dutch art Antonis Mor, court painter to Philip II of Spain. But with no documentary evidence, it's a hard case to prove.
While Bendor travels to Madrid to track down other examples of Mor's work, Emma digs deeper into the double standards of Victorian morals, finds the true story of the couple who made Hospitalfield a haven for artists, and meets the contemporary artists working at Hospitalfield today.

MON 22:00 The Sky at Night (m002b26m)
Asteroid Strike?
The new series of The Sky at Night kicks off with the biggest story in space news since we have been off air, the ‘city killer’ asteroid 2024 YR4. First observed on 27 December 2024, it soon became one of the biggest threats from an asteroid ever detected, with the potential to cause a heat blast that could vaporise solid rock, wind blasts five times the speed of the strongest hurricane and a shockwave that would flatten buildings and trees for hundreds of miles. This was a potential natural disaster we needed to respond to as a planet. So how well did we do? Our team of presenters are on hand to find out, and while YR4 was later downgraded to a near miss, what has it told us about our ability to react when an asteroid strike is on its way?
George Dransfield kicks off, talking us through the damage an asteroid like YR4 could do and why some say we are overdue an asteroid strike of this size. But how will we know if it’s truly on its way?
Chris Lintott meets Dr Meg Schwamb at a football pitch – which it turns out is the perfect place to explain how the probability of a strike is calculated. Following the same highs and lows they do when a ball just misses the goal, they explain why the probability of asteroid 2024 YR4 hitting earth first rose so quickly before it fell. It turns out it wasn’t the maths being wrong!
Luckily, next time the numbers say an asteroid impact is on its way, we do have ways of defending ourselves, Maggie Aderin-Pocock takes a tea break to explain some of the options, from nudging it to nuking it - they all have their pros and cons.
But to know our best plan of action, we need to know more about the asteroids, and George meets up with Dr Carly Howett to find out how Nasa’s Lucy Mission could provide us with invaluable information for any future strikes.
With this wealth of information about any potential asteroids heading our way, Maggie meets Prof Hugh Lewis in Southampton to discover how the international community is set up to respond to any future threats, to find out who will decide what action to take and the possible consequences it may have.
But the skies and the asteroids in it aren’t just a scary threat to humanity; when we stop and look up, there are some beautiful sights to be seen, and Pete Lawrence is on hand to tell us what to look out for in the coming months.
Join us for an exciting episode that looks beyond the headlines, to see what efforts were made to protect us from an asteroid that could have wiped out a city the size of Greater London - and beyond.

TUE 21:00 Lucy Worsley Investigates (p0bvhk4q)
Series 1
Princes in the Tower
In this series, Lucy Worsley re-investigates some of the most dramatic and brutal chapters in British history, uncovering forgotten witnesses, re-examining old evidence and following new clues.
The story of the princes in the tower is as familiar as a fairy tale – two innocent boys murdered in their beds at the behest of their evil uncle Richard so he could seize the throne for himself and be crowned King Richard III. But there is very little evidence about what happened in 1483, and no real proof that the boys were murdered. They simply disappeared from sight – and from known historical record.
The two princes, Edward and Richard, lived during the Wars of the Roses, a decades-long fight over the English throne between the house of Lancaster and the house of York. Edward IV, the boy’s father, was the first Yorkist King. His eldest son, Edward, was destined to inherit the throne – and this fact entirely shaped his young life.
Edward was just 12 when his father died and he succeeded him as King – but his age meant he wasn’t considered quite ready to rule. Edward IV had appointed his brother Richard to be the young Kings protector - but not everyone was happy with this arrangement. What followed was a tussle for control between Richard and the Queen’s family, the Woodvilles, revealing fascinating ideas about childhood, and the nature of politics and power in medieval England.
Uncle Richard had young Edward and Richard installed at the Tower of London 'for their own protection', but when a priest declared that the boys were actually illegitimate, Richard was next in line to the throne, and it was he who was crowned King Richard III.
As far as we know, the boys were not seen again. The gaps in the historical record have fuelled 500 years of speculation. Lucy speaks to historian Prof Tim Thornton, who has found evidence that may back up one account of what really happened to them, written by Thomas More a generation after the events.
In the light of all the evidence she’s had access to, Lucy makes up her own mind about Richard’s guilt. But importantly, this story has also revealed much about the lot of a royal child in medieval England. And one thing Lucy is certain about is that the story of the Princes in the Tower shows how interpretations are never fixed, there’s always the possibility that new evidence will come to light, and that this story will continue to fascinate us.
TUE 22:00 Ten Pound Poms: The Real Story (m001mwdk)

TUE 22:50 The Australian Dream (m000lpv7)
The inspirational story of Indigenous Australian Football League (AFL) legend Adam Goodes.
A deep and powerful story about race, identity and belonging, the film centres on an incident where a 13-year-old opposition supporter called Goodes an ape during a football match. Pointed out by Goodes, the girl was ejected from the stadium by officials. The event went on to divide a nation, with Goodes booed by opposition fans at subsequent matches. It generated enormous public debate and dominated media coverage, exposing an ugly seam of racism running through the nation. The film unpicks the unfolding events from 2013 to 2015, raising fundamental questions about the nature of racism and discrimination in society today. What happened resonates beyond Australia.
Award-winning writer and broadcaster Stan Grant and Bafta Award-winning director Daniel Gordon join forces to bring to the world the remarkable story of one of the most celebrated players in AFL history – a sportsman and Australian who remains a cultural hero, a symbol of resilience and survival and an indigenous man who continues to fight for equality and reconciliation.
