One of the great masterpieces of Mughal art, the 16th century Hamzanama paintings took 15 years to complete and were commissioned by Akbar, 13-year-old boy who was to become one of the greatest rulers in history. Of the original 1,400 paintings, just a precious few remain to demonstrate the extraordinary skills of the Iranian and Indian painters who created them.

In the early 80s, punk-inspired art students such as The Human League and ABC took British pop to the top of the world's charts, but from the late 80s onwards, dynasties of star-makers such as Stock Aitken and Waterman have tried to mould British pop into a highly-profitable production line.
