MON 09:00 Paul Sinha's Citizenship Test (b038n3dh)
Episode 3

Paul Sinha is proudly British. He also loves a quiz. So you would have thought that the UK Citizenship Test, which newcomers to this country must pass to become citizens, would have been right up his street. But the questions in the 2012 and 2013 Home Office guides seem either bizarrely easy - "Where is Welsh most widely spoken?" - or infuriatingly vague - "What happened in the First World War?".

So Paul has created his own test, to better reflect the things that aspiring migrants should understand before they can call themselves British. In this third episode he looks at British culture - newspapers, TV, art and film. He tests the studio audience on their knowledge, with those that answer incorrectly being deported; he also offers up ten pounds of his own money to anyone in the audience who can correctly identify an artist that the Home Office think all new immigrants should be aware of.

The series intertwines the sort of comedy Paul has become known for on The Now Show, The News Quiz, and Fighting Talk, as well as his own Radio 4 shows The Sinha Test and The Sinha Games, and the command of facts and figures he demonstrates on the ITV quiz show The Chase, with a dash of the patriotism that has seen him banned from the bar at the United Nations.

Written and performed by Paul Sinha.
Producer: Ed Morrish.

This week Clive is in Edinburgh to bring you a smorgasbord of delights from all aspects of the festival. Better known as a comedian, Omid Djalili joins Clive to talk about his starring role in The Shawshank Redemption and his solo comedy show 'Omid Djalili Live'.

"Funny, feisty, female, full of feeling" is how Carol Ann Duffy describes Liz Lochhead. Liz is a poet, dramatist and current Scots Makar - or national poet who makes her debut appearance on Loose Ends but has hardly missed a year at the Edinburgh International Book Festival since 1983.

Clive meets Kieran Hurley and Julia Taudevin who are fast becoming something of a power couple in their generation of young theatre makers. Their play Chalk Farm was inspired by the 2011 riots and stars Julia as a single mother who is caught up in the drama.

An Edinburgh star himself, Arthur Smith joins forces with one of the UKs best loved beatboxers, Beardyman, to find out about and have a tinker with his machinery - the Beardytron.

We have more music from Edinburgh's Young Fathers who are known as the best Scottish rap group in the world ... ever! The group members hail originally from Liberia, Nigeria, America and Scotland and have been making music together since their teens.

MON 14:15 On Your Bike (b00yqg3z)
The Most Civilised Conveyance

The 19th century velocipedes were heavy, slow and expensive before an English engineer James Starley developed the high bicycle or penny farthing which overcame the difficulties of gearing and weight. Although these 'high bicycles' were dangerous and unstable they were eagerly taken up by fashionable young men who formed cycle clubs and took to the open road with gusto.

In the 1880's the safety bike arrived, it was very similar to the bikes of today, with a chain drive and smaller wheels anyone who could afford it could easily ride. The women who defied the dress codes of the day to ride in culottes or bloomers contributed to the emerging movement for women's suffrage and liberation.

Artists, musicians and writers found inspiration on two wheels and the socialist Clarion Cycle Club cycled to spread their message. Then, in World War One, cycle battalions went to France with bikes adapted to carry kit and rifles to the front. Between the wars mass production delivered bikes cheap enough for everyone and fuelled by the outdoor and fitness movements cycling entered into a golden age, the working classes now had the freedom of the open road.

After the war people once again took the road in freedom on the only transport available in the years of frugality. The 1960's brought prosperity, mass car ownership and a fascination with modernity and speed that didn't include cycling and bikes were left unused and rusting in garden sheds. Then a group of young people in California developed the mountain bike and again cycling became fashionable. A fashion for fitness was back on the agenda and there were the added incentives to reduce pollution and congestion in cities and seek more environmentally friendly ways of getting about. Today the bicycle is once again in the ascendency.

MON 23:00 Bremner's One Question Quiz (b0385n2f)
What Is Britishness?

What Is Britishness?

Rory Bremner returns to Radio 4 with a new weekly comedy show that takes one big contemporary question each week and attempts to answer it as satirically as possible.

Regular panellists Nick Doody and Andy Zaltzman are joined by comedian and impressionist Mel Hudson and this week's guest experts are author, comedian and politician, John O'Farrell, and the British correspondent for Die Zeit, John Jungclaussen, as Rory asks "What is Britishness?".

Rory's mantra is that it's as important to make sense out of things as it is to make fun of them - only then will people laugh at the truth. So this deconstructed "quiz" has only one question each week, because that question is so big, there's no time for anything else. Expect a mix of stand-up and sketch combined with investigative satire and incisive interviews with a diverse range of characters who really know what they're talking about.

Producers: Simon Jacobs & Frank Stirling
